For smaller businesses, those with 12 people or less, one of the most effective and cost efficient communication options is with cordless office phone systems. These systems are easy to operate, affordable, and they provide a practical solution. Typically, phone systems used for an office setting are larger, more complicated, and expensive but in the past several years, technology has resulted in cordless systems that work amazingly well.
One consideration when buying phone systems for company use has to do with traffic and interference. Frequencies are assigned by the Federal Communications Commission specific for cordless phones. For these phone systems to work, wireless signals are used, which means that sometimes, interference can be an issue. The best way to avoid a problem such as this would be to choose cordless phones that have a frequency of 5.8 GHz although anything 2.4 GHz and up is considered good. Systems with 5.8 GHz are the best on the market, providing the highest level of clarity and range, but more importantly, security.
Another consideration specific to cordless phone systems used in an office setting is the number of obstructions. Again, for a cordless phone to work, wireless signals are sent and received. If the system used in the office is close to doors, walls, or even some types of equipment, the signal might have a hard time getting through, which could result in static or lost calls. Therefore, when establishing the best place for the system, the business owner needs to choose an open area, one away from obstructions.

The reason is that the average scanner can only reach frequencies between 512 – 900 MHz, so the higher the frequency of the cordless system the greater the level of security.
One of the newest offerings for cordless phones is called DECT. This particular system uses wireless technology and is a special office system. Although the design is somewhat complex, the result is a system with better coverage and higher security. This system began in Europe but, today, many office people are using it and loving the better quality overall.
